Buena Park
The city’s story officially begins in 1953, when it was incorporated. The exact derivation of its name is uncertain, but it is believed to have been inspired by the artesian well and its park-like grounds, once situated at the current intersection of Artesia and Breach Boulevard.
The area, within the city stands, was transferred under Mexican rule, from Spanish authority, in 1822, 28 years later, California being granted statehood. In 1887, James A. Whitaker, who, 2 years prior, purchased 690 acres of land here, founded the City of Buena Park, in conjunction with the railway development of what today is Orange County.
Since then, the city has continuously developed, and has become the “attraction and entertainment capital of Southern California”, its area being packed with appealing tourist attractions, hotels, motels, and a wide range of great restaurants.
